About Us

Educational Philosophy

At Into the Woods, we see our students as the captains of their own educational journeys. We believe in the innate wonder and curiosity present in all children, and believe that, as teachers, it is our responsibility to keep that wonder and curiosity burning bright. As firm followers of the Permaculture principle of observation, we carefully make note of what excites and interests each student, and take the time to work with them, both one-on-one and in groups, to help kindle a life-long passion for learning.

Taking inspiration from Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and the Waldorf school philosophies, Into the Woods follows a whole-child approach to the educational development of each of our students. By focusing on our school as a community, we provide a structure in which each student can see themselves as both a learner and a teacher, as both a speaker and a listener, and as both a receiver and a giver. We focus on developing empathy, communication skills, and self-expression in all aspects of our outdoor classroom, providing our students with foundational tools that will help them connect with others throughout their growth into adulthood.
